ENROLLMENT PROCESS
Welcome to Pitt!
Here is a checklist of what to expect in the enrollment process. The enrollment process is a little different depending on when you are starting your classes. Please make sure you are looking at the list that applies to you.
- Commit to Pitt! The first step to becoming a Panther is to commit to Pitt. Accept your admission, confirm your residency, and pay your $300 enrollment fee by May 1. The enrollment fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Note: If you were admitted after April 15, you have two weeks from the date of your admissions decision to submit the enrollment fee.
- Apply for financial aid. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and see what types of federal or state financial aid you qualify for. Pitt’s identifying code is: 008815.
- Register for classes. Once you commit to Pitt, we’ll be in touch about online orientation, getting connected with your academic advisor, and registering for classes. Keep an eye on your brand new pitt.edu e-mail address!
- Find your new home. On-campus housing is guaranteed to those starting in the fall, for three years as long as you commit to Pitt by May 1 and meet all of your housing deadlines. On-campus housing is limited but available for students starting in the spring. Take a tour of residence halls and learn more about the housing process. - Get the credit you deserve. Send official transcripts from all of the colleges, universities, and post-secondary schools you’ve previously attended to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Your prior coursework will be evaluated and we will mail you information about the credits we can accept. Keep an eye on your pitt.edu e-mail address for all of the information you need to register for classes and meet your academic advisor.

- Find your new home. If you are interested in on-campus housing, contact Panther Central to be added to the waitlist. Housing in Pitt residence halls is limited for transfer students. - Mark your calendar. Spring term classes begin on January 9, 2023. Fall term classes begin on August 28, 2023. Spring term classes begin January 8, 2024.

- Set up your Pitt e-mail. Within five business days of submitting your enrollment fee, you will receive an e-mail from the Technology Help Desk guiding you to set up your Pitt e-mail account. If you do not receive an e-mail, contact the Technology Help Desk. Once your account is set up, be sure to check your Pitt e-mail on a daily basis for important enrollment information.
- Immigration process. Immigration specialists in the Office of International Services (OIS) handle the immigration process for international students. OIS will contact you at your Pitt email address within 3-4 weeks of submitting your enrollment fee regarding the next steps for your immigration document. Once you have provided OIS with all required documentation, they will send documents (e.g. I-20) needed to apply for your student visa, if applicable.
- Online Orientation. First-year students are required to complete all modules in the online orientation in a timely manner, where you can learn important information about the academic schools, student resources, paying for college, student engagement, campus safety and policies, as well as next steps.
- Academic advisor and register for classes. Once you submit both the enrollment fee and the required financial and/or visa documentation, and complete the online orientation, your academic advisor will contact you at your Pitt email address to schedule a virtual appointment and help you register for spring classes (dates vary by different academic school).
- Sign up for English Language Proficiency exam. You are required to take an online language proficiency exam before the spring term starts, regardless of the score of TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo you submitted with your application. Test results are used to determine if students may benefit from an additional English as a Second Language course. You can find more information on guidelines and instructions here.
- Housing. On-campus housing for transfer students and first-year students starting in the spring term is very limited and is not guaranteed. If you need housing, we recommend you plan to look for options in a neighborhood near campus. Our Off-Campus Living office can assist you with the search process. Public transportation from most neighborhoods is readily available and Pitt students can ride the Pittsburgh Regional Transit system fare-free with a valid Pitt ID. If you would like to be on the waitlist for on-campus housing, please contact Panther Central.
- Scholarship and Financial aid. International students are NOT eligible for financial aid and international first-year students starting in the spring term are NOT eligible for academic merit-based scholarships.

- Complete your on-campus housing contract. Starting at the end of February or within two weeks of submitting the enrollment fee, Panther Central will begin e-mailing housing contracts to first-year students interested in on-campus housing who have paid their enrollment fee on or before the May 1 deadline. You must submit your housing contract and housing deposit before the deadline specified on your contract. Housing is guaranteed for three years from the fall term to which you have been offered admission provided you pay your enrollment fee and housing deposit before the deadlines. Housing assignment and move-in date information will be sent to your Pitt email in mid-July.
- Online Orientation. First-year students are required to complete all modules in the online orientation in a timely manner, where you can learn important information about the academic schools, student resources, paying for college, student engagement, campus safety and policies, as well as next steps.

- Send your final high school transcript and proof of graduation. As noted in your admissions decision letter, your admission is provisional provided you continue to perform satisfactorily in your classes and graduate from high school. We will be requesting your final, official high school transcript and proof of high school graduation (e.g. graduation certificate/diploma). You can submit an electronic copy of your final high school transcript and proof of high school graduation to pitt.admissions@pitt.edu. All final records are reviewed carefully. The records of students whose grades drop significantly will be sent to the Dean of the school to which they have been admitted for appropriate action, whether that be a warning message, placement on probation, or retraction of admission. Therefore, it is important that you continue to do well academically. If you submitted a Self-Reported Academic Record, what you reported will be carefully compared to your final high school transcript. Discrepancies or misreporting of information could result in admission revocation.
- Pre-arrival Checklist and International Student Orientation (Mandatory). Along with your immigration document (I-20), you will also receive information from OIS via your Pitt email about Welcome Week activities, including the in-person Undergraduate International Student Orientation which is a mandatory program for all incoming international students hosted on campus in late August. Further information about traveling and arrival will be provided through the OIS online portal (my.ois.pitt.edu) within the Pre-arrival Checklist once your immigration document has been created. Note: You will be allowed to move into your residence hall before Welcome Week so that you can attend the International Student Orientation on campus.
- Scholarship and Financial aid. International students are NOT eligible for financial aid. All merit-based scholarship awards should be sent out via email by March 1.

- Credit evaluation. If you applied as a transfer student, your college/university transcript(s) have been forwarded to the school/college to which you have been accepted. Your prior coursework will be evaluated and a transfer of credit form outlining the courses that will transfer, along with a listing of the core graduation requirements that you have fulfilled, will be e-mailed to you as an attachment. Please make sure to forward your final, official transcript when it becomes available.
- Academic advisor and register for classes. Once you submit both the enrollment fee and the required financial and/or visa documentation, your academic advisor will contact you at your Pitt email address to schedule a virtual appointment and help you register for classes (dates vary by different academic school).
