Fall 2022 Application Review Update

Interest in Pitt has never been stronger!

Surge in Fall 2022

A record number of first-year applications to the Pittsburgh campus have been submitted — nearly 50,000. The large volume of applications means that you can expect the initial review process to take longer than the previously advertised 6 to 8 weeks. Due to the extremely high number of competitive applicants and the nature of our holistic review, we are unable to provide individual explanations for a decision. Formal requests for reconsideration are very unlikely to result in a new decision and will not be reviewed until after April 1, 2022. Your continued patience is greatly appreciated.

What does this mean for applicants waiting to hear from Pitt

It’s taking a little longer than usual. If you’ve reached out or need to reach out, please know that your questions are important to us. However, the large increase in applications may result in a delayed response. The application status portal (with details below) may not reflect the fact that your documents have been received and are being prepared for review. We encourage you to check our website and social media channels for important updates and responses to frequently asked questions. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We appreciate your interest in Pitt!

Best Way to Connect

Start with a chat. Look for the chat icon in the lower right-hand corner of your desktop or mobile device. (Safari or Google Chrome browsers work best .) “Cathy” our friendly Chat Bot is available 24/7. If it doesn’t have the answers you seek, you will be given the chance to engage with an admissions representative via chat or email.

Checking Your Application Status

  • Pitt Username/Password: About a week after applying, Pitt IT will reach out with information on setting up your account. You will need the Pitt username and password (credentials) to log in at my.pitt.edu. If you’re having issues with this step, check your junk/spam folder for emails from helpdesk@pitt.edu or reach out to Pitt IT and let them know.
  • Campus Experience: Log into Campus Experience (pi.tt/studentcenter) to check your application status. In the navigation on the left, choose admissions, then select application status. Select your current application and click the “View To Dos” button in the bottom right. If you do not see any to dos, your application is in the review phase and you can expect to hear from us via email once your admissions decision is complete. The application status portal may not reflect the fact that your documents have been received and are being prepared for review. While this step will not include the actual decision, it will be how you can make sure Pitt has everything needed to complete your application.
  • Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR): Regarding academic transcripts, the best and fastest way for an application to be processed is to complete the Pitt Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). The SRAR links automatically to the admission file and will make application processing time faster. (Use the same email address you used to apply.)
  • Access Pitt Document Center: Any admissions committee decision(s) will be uploaded to the Pitt Document Center. At present, you will receive a decision approximately 6-8 weeks from when all required items have been received and processed.

Make sure you add pitt.admissions@pitt.edu as a safe sender within your email server. This is very important given that Pitt communicates primarily by email. More about that here.
