Home Schooled Applicants
The University of Pittsburgh welcomes home schooled applicants!
Home schooled applicants must, minimally, complete the following requirements:
- 4 years of English
- 3 years of mathematics
- 3 years of science
- 3 years of social studies
- 2 years of arts and humanities
However, students applying to University of Pittsburgh professional schools such as the Swanson School of Engineering, College of Business Administration, and School of Nursing must fulfill the specific curricular requirements of those schools.
As with other University of Pittsburgh applicants for admission, home schooled students are evaluated individually based upon academic coursework and standardized tests (SAT or ACT). The test-optional policy does not apply to Home Schooled applicants.
To support the admissions application, the home schooled applicant must submit:
- Official results of the SAT or ACT
- Home School Supplemental Form
- Evaluations of progress from home school evaluator or supervisor (if applicable) sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
- One letter of recommendation from an academic professional sent to email@example.com
- A listing all courses completed, by year in high school, and corresponding grade received (if grade was given by home school educator) sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
Often, home schooled students have completed college-level courses to supplement their education. Students who have completed college-level courses are highly encouraged to submit an official transcript. Finally, home schooled applicants are highly encouraged to complete and submit the optional Freshman Application Short Answer Questions.
The final transcript for enrolling students should either originate from an accredited home school organization or be signed by the individual responsible for the student’s home school education.
All home school materials should be submitted via email to email@example.com or U.S. mail at:

All University of Pittsburgh applicants who are applying to the Pittsburgh campus have the option to rank the regional Pitt campuses in order of preference on their application. This helps the Admissions Committee do its best to match you with a Pitt campus. If you do not rank campuses, the Committee will select a Pitt campus that they feel best matches your academic interests.
You may only have one University of Pittsburgh application active at a time across our five campuses. For a prompt review, please apply directly to the Pitt campus that is your first choice. To transfer your application to another campus, please contact the campus that has your current application on file and ask them to cancel it for you. You will then be able to apply to a different campus of your choice.
